The St. Louis Cardinals are expected to make a major offseason addition to their starting rotation.
John Denton of MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, quoted St. Louis President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak as saying on social media on Tuesday (Aug. 16), “Realistically, we know we need to add three starting pitchers this offseason.먹튀검증
The Cardinals have slipped to fourth place in the National League Central and are unlikely to make it to fall ball. Recognizing this reality, the club traded away both Jordan Montgomery (now with the Texas Rangers) and Jack Flaherty (now with the Baltimore Orioles). With Adam Wainwright set to retire after the season, they need to bolster their starting rotation. Wainwright is a veteran with 198 career wins, but he’s struggled this year, going 3-7 with an 8.78 ERA.
There will be plenty of starting options available in MLB free agency after this season. With the likes of Shohei Ohtani (Los Angeles Angels), Blake Snell (San Diego Padres), Aaron Nola (Philadelphia Phillies), Lucas Giolito (Angels), and Julio Urias (Los Angeles Dodgers) expected to sign new deals, it will be interesting to see who the Cardinals can bring in. However, the Cardinals are not expected to spend more than $100 million ($133.8 million) on pitching free agents, so we’ll have to wait and see if they make any realistic additions.
Of the St. Louis starting pitchers currently in the rotation, only Mies Myers is a lock to start next season. A major overhaul is in the works.
