Former Portugal national team coach Fernando Santos has been appointed as the new coach of the Polish national team, after Paulo Bento, former coach of the Korean national soccer team, was mentioned as a strong candidate.
The Polish Football Association held a press conference in Warsaw, Poland on the 24th (local time) and announced that coach Santos would take the helm.안전놀이터
Poland’s contract expired at the end of last month with coach Chesław Mikhniewicz, who led the team to the round of 16 at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Afterwards, the search for the next head coach continued, and coach Bento, who led Korea to the round of 16 in 12 years, was mentioned as a strong candidate.
However, negotiations with Bento broke down and the Polish Football Association gave the helm to former Portuguese coach Santos.
Santos led the Portuguese national team from 2014 to the last World Cup in Qatar.
During his tenure with the Portuguese national team, he won Euro 2016 for the first time, and was the first champion of the UEFA Nations League in the 2018-2019 season.
At the World Cup in Qatar, it passed the group stage as first place, but lost 1-2 in the third round against Korea, and was eliminated by Morocco 0-1 in the quarterfinals.
Santos said at the press conference, “From today I am a Polish citizen. I will try to give joy to the Poles. I am sure of success here.”
