The Hanwha Eagles, who had slipped to the bottom of the standings after failing to end their losing streak, snapped an eight-game losing streak by beating the leaders, the LG Twins.
Hanwha beat LG 5-3 in the ninth inning of the 2023 Shinhan Bank Solar KBO League game at Jamsil Stadium on Sunday, thanks to Lee Jin-young’s game-winning hit.
Hanwha (43 wins, 6 draws, 61 losses), which dropped to last place the day before, snapped an eight-game losing streak to gain ground.
Leader LG (57 wins, 2 draws, 42 losses) had its two-game winning streak halted.
Hanwha scored first in the second inning and held the lead until the seventh.
Hanwha opened the scoring in the top of the second when Jang Jin-hyuk singled up the middle after Kim Tae-yeon singled and Choi In-ho walked.
Hanwha added to its lead with a home run in the sixth inning off Ricardo Sanchez.
In the top of the sixth, Lee Jin-young led off with a single to left, and Noh Si-hwan followed with a two-run shot to left-center field. Noh lined a 148-kilometer-per-hour fastball from right-handed bullpen pitcher Yoo Young-chan for a two-run home run.
The home run leader hit his 30th home run of the season. He also became the second player this season to hit a home run against his former club, joining Jose Pirela (Samsung Lions).
LG didn’t go away easily. It scored three runs in the eighth inning to even the score.
In the bottom of the eighth, a walk to Park Dong-won and a single to right by Moon Sung-joo put runners on first and third with no outs. Park then stepped to the plate and pulled a Jang Si-hwan’s first-pitch slider for a three-run shot (his fourth of the season) over the right field wall.
However, Hanwha regained the lead in the ninth inning off LG reliever Ko Woo-seok.
In the top of the ninth, Lee Won-seok singled, Choi Jae-hoon was hit by a pitch and Jung Eun-won walked to load the bases, and Lee Jin-young followed with a single to left field to bring home two runners.
With a 5-3 lead, Hanwha brought in Park Sang-won in the bottom of the ninth.
Park gave up a leadoff single to Moon Bo-kyung, but induced a groundout to Oh Ji-hwan and then struck out Lee Jae-won to preserve the win. Park earned his 11th save of the season (5-3).
Sanchez pitched six innings of three-hit, six-strikeout ball to set the stage for Hanwha’s victory. A bullpen misfire cost him the win.스포츠토토
Kim Bum-soo, who replaced Jang Si-hwan in the bottom of the eighth inning with the score tied 3-3, pitched one scoreless inning to earn his fourth win of the season.
Go Woo-seok took the loss after giving up two runs on two hits in ⅔ innings. He fell to 3-12 with his sixth loss of the season.
