Jack Greinke (40, Kansas City Royals), a former Cy Young pitcher, made a surprise appearance at the Hanwha Eagles spring camp.
Greinke appeared on the 7th (Korean time) at Bellbank Park in Mesa, Arizona, USA. This is where Hanwha started spring camp from the 1st, and Greinke appeared at noon after morning training.
Another Cy Young Award pitcher, free agent Dallas Keuchel, and Minnesota Twins reliever pitcher Griffin Jackson also accompanied Greinke. Hanwha coach Carlos Subero hinted, “I understand that (US private baseball academy) borrowed this place from the driveline as a training site.”
Bellbank Park has several baseball fields. At the stadium right next to the three sides used by Hanwha, Greinke climbed the mound and 먹튀검증threw the ball for personal training. In the back, people who appeared to be driveline officials were using equipment to check the ball. During the lunch break, Hanwha players were also amazed by taking pictures of Greinke’s pitch with their mobile phones.
Greinke signed a one-year contract with Kansas City on the 4th. The condition is an annual salary of $8.5 million plus $7.5 million in incentives. The Associated Press released details of the incentives on the 6th.
This year, Greinke gets $450,000 for every five extra innings pitched from 90 to 135. If he pitches up to 135 innings, he could secure $4.5 million. Then, if he digests 5 additional innings from 140 to 185 innings, he receives 300,000 dollars each, a total of 3 million dollars more. When pitching up to 185 innings, the incentive alone amounts to 7.5 million dollars, or about 9.4 billion won in our money.
Greinke was placed on the disabled list twice last year with a forearm problem, and was unable to reach regulation innings in 137 innings. The last time he threw more than 185 innings was in 2019 (208⅔ innings) when he was with the Houston Astros. As he is a 40-year-old veteran, there is a risk of injury, but the innings incentive seems to be a good motivator.
In addition, Greinke also included in the contract the right to refuse trades against former clubs. If you win the Cy Young Award or MVP, you can receive $ 100,000, and you can receive $ 50,000 if you are in the 2nd to 5th place in the Cy Young Award or MVP voting. He also included options to receive $100,000 if he won the World Series MVP, $50,000 if he won the League Championship Series MVP, and $50,000 if he won the Gold Glove or was selected as an All-Star.
Greinke, who debuted in Kansas City in 2004, is a living legend-class pitcher who recorded 223 wins, 141 losses, 1 save, an average ERA of 3.42, and 2882 strikeouts in 556 games (3247 innings) in 19 major league seasons. Including the 2009 American League Cy Young Award, he boasts an All-Star Gold Glove 6 times, an earned run average 1st place and a Silver Slugger 2 times. He ranks first among active pitchers in innings, second in wins, and third in strikeouts.
