Pittsburgh Pirates’ Ji-Hwan Bae grounds into a double play.
Bae made a pinch-hitting appearance in the top of the eighth inning of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2023 Major League Baseball (MLB) game against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, on July 31. He played two innings of defense and did not get a chance to bat.
Bae had started and gotten a hit in all three games against the Chicago Cubs on Aug. 28 and Kansas City on Aug. 30, but Pittsburgh kept him on the bench today because Kansas City’s starter was left-hander Angel Serpa.
After getting through the top of the eighth inning without incident, Bae was unable to catch a fly ball from leadoff hitter Maikel Garcia in the top of the ninth. He scrambled to catch the ball that flew over his head but failed to make the catch, allowing the runner to reach third base.
However, Bae made a great catch on a fly ball from Bobby Witt Jr. to keep the runner at third, and Pittsburgh recorded two more outs to end the game.
After sweeping Kansas City in games 29 and 30, Pittsburgh swept the three-game series with a 4-1 victory today. Brian Reynolds’ leadoff single in the first inning was followed by RBI singles from Vinny Capra and Zack Swinski in the second to make it 3-0 before Swinski’s solo shot in the top of the seventh made it 3-1.
Andre Jackson earned his first win of the season, going 5⅔ innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. The bullpen followed with a scoreless relay to preserve the lead, and closer David Bednar earned his 29th save.스포츠토토
